Night Time Photography

For this unit we were allocated the task of conducting a photo shoot during night time in order to capture various light sources, movement, blurring, through experimenting with shutter speed, camera movement, ISO and compositions from the dark.

This first photo was taken at Lake Albert, looking acorss the lake rom Apex Park side. The shot has captured movement beautifully, and was created by simply moving the camera is a zig-zag motion whilst taking the shot. I think it's really quite effective and is compositionally sound, the border or black around the light source, although un-intentional adds a more professional and structured finish to the shot . This image has been optimised on photoshop, but all i did was adjust the levels thorughout the image to make the black blacker, which made the light areas brighter and more vibrant.
This photo was taken thorugh my windscreen whilst driving, and shows aroundabout with numerous street lights, shop fronts and other vehicles providing the light sources which all bounce off each other creating a really cool effect.
Althoguh this photo is a little blurry, i think it helps to depcit the feeling of motion in the picture, as the car was moving at the time it was taken.
This image has also been optimised on photoshop, again by just darkening the dark areas and adjusting the hue saturation to make the light sources brighter and more dominant throughout the shot.
This photo was taken again at Lake Albert, where i pulled over, my car headlights creating the dominant light source and illuminating the side of the road, then the street lights on the right and the city lights across the lake on the left helping to balance the photo.
This photo has been optimised by slightly adjusting the hue saturation to craete a more dramatic image
this photo was also taken thorugh the windscreen whilst driving, and has been slightly edited on photoshop to enhance the overall image aulity and aesthetic appeal generated.
the white lines on the road are illuminated by the car headlights, the lights from the oncoming traffic in the near distance and the vast darkness surrounding the light sources all combine to make what i think is a very successful image

This image was also taken overlooking the lake, although in this photo there is minimal movement of the camera whilst the shot is being taken, so the light sources are slightly blurred and un-shapely but not nearly as distorted as some of the other images.
This photo has also been slighty edited, again just to heighten the overall effect generated by the image and in making the darks darke and the lights lighter.
This photo is a great example of the movement that can be created by light sources when the shot is taken at night time. The camera was simply moved from side to side in a fluent motion whilst the shot was being taken, and this has created the streaks of light which very clearly demonstrates the feeling of movement.
Again this photo was taken overlooking the lake, which gives the vast darkness - the water and minimal surrounds, and then the light source of the suburbs
This photo effect was created by making multiple zig zag movements in quite a jerky motion whilst the shot was being taken, to create the effect of linear movements

This image depicts a Church in Bourkelands, with the street lights andlights of the surrounding houses creating the varied light sources which illuminate the church perfectly . the images's levels have been adjusted slightly to enhance the colour saturation and image effectiveness. I think this work is successful in it's compositional values, and i especially like the subject matte - there is something very alluring about a church .
